30 Hour Famine

30 Hour Famine is a chance to raise awareness about the thousands of children who die everyday from starvation and to do something about it. For weeks ahead of time our students raise money to donate to 30 Hour Famine (www.30hourfamine.org) by going door to door, asking friends and teachers at school, and any other method they think of.

On the Friday of the Famine students are asked to stop eating after lunch in order to begin the 30 hours of fasting. We then gather on Friday night for a time of prayer, worship, teaching, and first-hand accounts of famine conditions. Saturday is spent in service projects around our region.

This year we went to Whosoever Gospel Mission, Calvary Bible Fellowship, Light Ministries, and Philabundance Food Bank to name a few. We partner every year with Germantown Christian Assembly for the 30 Hour Famine. Through our partnership with GCA and with the other ministries we served our students are experiencing a growing vision of the Kingdom of God and His heart for the poor and needy.

This years famine was a blessing to all of us as we were challenged to take the place of hunger so that others could eat, even as Jesus took the place of sin so that we could be saved. What an amazing event! Thanks to all of you who supported us in this years 30 Hour Famine.

We raised over $2000 dollars, which will be doubled by matching grants! that’s great news to dozens of kids who wouldn’t otherwise have been able to eat this month. thanks to everyone who was involved.

  2. I am really glad that we have this blog to post information about events like the “30 hour famine”. For as long as I’ve been in the church I did not know what the youth did during the actual time they were fasting. It’s really cool to see how purposeful they spend their time and how much money has been raised towards this amazing event! Praise God! I am blessed by the youth in this church.
